SUMMARY:Talking with Kids About Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
DESCRIPTION:This class will be held online via Zoom — you’ll receive an email with access information prior to the event. While classes are LIVE in nature and by default not recorded\, some educators have chosen to offer recordings of their classes to pre-registered attendees; please inquire for specifics of this event. Registration deadline: 2:30 p.m. PST on the day of class. No day-of cancellations. \n\n\n\nA recent survey showed that 1 in 6 Gen Z folks are queer. Representation of sexual and gender minorities has expanded tremendously over the past several years. The world has changed since we were kids (thankfully!). So how do we make sure our homes\, classrooms\, and groups are safe\, welcoming\, and inclusive of queer youth? In this workshop for parents\, caregivers\, and youth-serving professionals\, you’ll learn the latest vocabulary\, skills to help you be a good ally\, and approaches to common questions and dilemmas. \n\n\n\nRebecca Koon has been teaching sexuality for over 10 years to people of all ages. She got her start in Planned Parenthood’s education program\, has trained reproductive health care providers\, teachers\, and other youth-serving professionals\, and she’s been a labor doula and childbirth educator. She did graduate work in Women and Gender studies and brings an intersectional feminist approach to all of her work. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re offering 2 free class spots to folks with financial need; please fill out this form if you are interested. Two people will be chosen randomly and contacted at least 2 weeks prior to class to confirm.
